Friday night, I was taking the bus home. It was late, but I guess rush hour was still in effect, because there was a chunk of the trip where the bus was *packed* and standing room only.
I kept looking at this one particular woman on the other side of the bus, who had taken up an entire seat for her bags. I kept glancing over every once in awhile to see if, perchance, she might do the right thing and move her stuff so someone could sit down.
She never did. And no one ever, that I saw, asked her for that seat. I almost wish I hadn't gotten a seat when I got on the bus - I feel like I definitely would have asked her for the seat. I am finding it hard to fathom how someone would not be really, honestly embarrassed by acting so rudely. Maybe it's because people get away with it - most of us have trouble calling other people on their rudeness - as exemplified by that seat remaining empty throughout the trip.
Not that I'm always the most considerate person - but I do make an effort. We're all in this world together, I feel like we should act that way.
Okay, stepping off my high horse.
